  3.     We surely can't fault those overeager youngsters who apply
  4. for admission to U.S. colleges and universities and offer proof
  5. of their talents in videotapes, paintings and cookies
  6. (EDUCATION, Dec. 19). They will, after all, grow up. But what
  7. about those gatekeepers at the halls of higher learning, college
  8. admissions officers? Are they really not taken in by these
  9. sycophantic, exhibitionist and plasticized efforts to be
  10. noticed?
